American actor and comedian Adam DeVine faced a life-altering experience at the age of eleven which shaped his life and career later on.
Known for his epic role in Modern Family and Workaholics, Adam DeVine’s career has expanded from acting to storytelling for which he got his due recognition. Speaking about what drives him to move toward new projects, the 40-year-old TV star shared that it is the recognition that “anything is possible.”

Adam DeVine almost ‘never walked again’ after being hit by truck as a child
Adam DeVine had to relearn how to walk after he faced a horrific accident at the age of 11. His bike came under a moving 42-ton cement truck when he didn’t see it when crossing the road. While his bike took some of the brunt of the accident and gave him a thread to survive, the actor ended up with multiple heavy injuries. He says the vehicle ran over him, and doctors suspected his legs might need amputated too.
Years later, the celebrity opened up about the life-changing accident. He shared: “I broke everything except my right femur from the waist down—crushed my legs from the knees down.
He added that he needed 26 surgeries for the next two years. “
“I was a noodle, I couldn’t do anything. So I had to train to get up and moving,” Adam described his dire state.
He wanted to give up – but he wasn’t allowed
The road to recovery was difficult and painful but Adam revealed how his therapist motivated him at every step of the way. They even ‘smacked’ him in the face once when he wanted to give up. “Yes, you can!” Adam recounted the therapist yelling, “Never say no! Never give up! Always one foot in front of the other!”
From relearning how to sit straight using his own back muscles to how to regain his motor abilities to be able to walk, the healing journey was tough. But DeVine admits it has given him a life lesson to live by.
“I think that experience helped me realize that anything is possible. I feel like I had a good perspective on how short life is and how, if you have goals, you should work hard to achieve them. And also take things one step at a time. That’s the lesson. Because I truly had to take it one step at a time—relearning how to walk,” DeVine told in an interview.
Adam is creating ‘miracles’ for children
The painful and horrific accident has taught Adam the value of life, and he is creating ‘miracles’ for children in pain. DeVine has used his own experience to raise support for kids who face terminal illnesses.
The Intern actor worked with Children’s Miracle Network Hospitals to raise support for 10 million kids who get treated at local children’s hospitals every year.
Speaking of his need to speak up for the kids who face unbearable agony at an early age, the actor shared: “When I was in the hospital I was in constant pain the nurses would always come in and have to adjust my legs, which were fully skin grafted, and in traction.
“The pain was next level. A cool nurse gave me this squirt gun and said if anyone was picking on me to hose them! It helped me forget about the pain if only for a little. Please help a kid in need forget about the pain by giving to Children’s Miracle Network Hospitals.”
